Today, I have a few things I’d like to share with you. But before I begin, I’d like to express my thanks.  There are many worthy causes out there all asking for your help and it must be incredibly hard to choose between them, which makes us particularly grateful that you’ve decided to support YWCA in the past.
So as well as writing to thank you for thinking this way, I’d like to take this opportunity to highlight how essential you are to YWCA.  I hope you don’t mind if I also ask you to help us again, with a donation today.
You’re a crucial part of our team
The thing is, when you contribute to our cause, you’re not just providing financial aid.  You’re giving a woman who is at risk of becoming homeless a safe place to call home; your giving our case workers the ability to offer personalised support to women; and supporting women as they strive to rebuild their life and escape the cycle of homelessness.
Together we are helping women open the door to a brighter future.  You’re very much a part of our team.  A dedicated team of people all over Australia, striving towards ending women’s homelessness in this country.
Help us change lives
Imagine suddenly losing the security and safety of your home. That’s the reality for many of our clients.
Marlene was 61 years old when she was made redundant from her job. After her redundancy Marlene faced severe anxiety and re-entering the workforce proved more difficult than she imagined. Without an income Marlene couldn’t keep up with her rental. As a result, she had no financial stability and her mental health was deteriorating.
One of the consequences of career breaks to have children and raise a family often means that a woman’s superannuation balance at retirement is around 23 per cent lower than for men.
The cost-of-living crisis meant Marlene was faced with the impossible choice between paying her rent, buying groceries and, as winter approached, keeping the heat on.
Homelessness is not a personal failure and can impact anyone. In fact, one major life event – job loss, a relationship breakdown, ill health or trauma can put anyone at risk of homelessness.
Many women like Marlene are facing homelessness right now, through no fault of their own.
YWCA found Marlene safe, affordable transitional accommodation and provided the support she needed to secure longer-term accommodation.
Marlene has stabilised her mental health and is independent and has begun building a support network by connecting with the local community centre.  Marlene is happy in her new area, and is so excited to achieve her housing, health and social goals.
We need your help to support other women who, like Marlene, need to find safe and secure housing and be given the support to rebuild their lives.
With increased demand, we need to raise $50,000 by the end of the year financial year to help us support more women, like Marlene, and their families.
Donations to YWCA helped Marlene access the support she needed when facing homelessness, as well as receive one-on-one support to get her life back on track.
We must ACT NOW to provide women with safe, secure and affordable housing and the support they need to rebuild their lives and break the cycle of homelessness.  Please send your tax-deductible gift now to give Marlene and other women the keys to a brighter future.
Ending homelessness is not just about providing women with a roof over their head, it’s about providing them a safe place to build the life they want for themselves.
To assist women in locating affordable, secure, and long-term accommodation, the YWCA may provide support such as;

  • Crisis accommodation
  • Help paying rent and bond
  • Paying for removalists
  • Assisting with replacement Identification
  • Providing a mobile phone and clothing
  • Long-term support to access education and training
  • Security upgrades to promote safety

Together, we can end homelessness for women in Australia.
